Lithium Polymer Battery Charge Guide

Step 1. Choose the right charger: Select a charger specifically designed for lithium polymer batteries to ensure compatibility and safety. Our factory offers a range of top-quality lithium polymer batteries, but we do not sell chargers. If you need chargers, you can purchase them on Alibaba or eBay. Step 2. Check your battery: Before charging, inspect the lithium polymer battery for any signs of damage, swelling, or leaks. If you notice anything unusual, refrain from charging and contact our support team for assistance.

Step 3. Balance charging: Always use a balance charger to ensure that each cell within the lithium polymer battery is charged evenly. This prevents overcharging and extends the life of your battery.

Step 4. Set the correct charging rate: The charging rate should be set according to your battery’s capacity (mAh). As a rule of thumb, for a lithium polymer battery, charge at a rate of 1C (1 times the capacity). For example, if your battery is 1500mAh, set the charging rate to 1500mA. But in most cases, we recommend charging the lithium polymer battery at 0.2C-0.5C, it is better for the battery life.

Step 5. Monitor the charging process: Keep an eye on the lithium polymer battery during the entire charging process. If you notice any unusual behavior, such as overheating or swelling, stop charging immediately and consult our experts.

Step 6. Unplug and store safely: Once the lithium polymer battery is fully charged, unplug it from the charger and store it in a fireproof container or LiPo safe bag until it’s ready for use.

How long lithium polymer battery fully charged?

The time it takes to fully charge a lithium polymer battery depends on the battery’s capacity, its current state of charge, and the charging rate you are using.

As a general rule, you can calculate the estimated charging time using the following formula: Charging Time (hours) = (Battery Capacity in mAh) / (Charging Rate in mA)

For example, if you have a 5000mAh lipo battery and you charge it at a rate of 1C (which would be 5000mA or 5A), the estimated charging time would be:

Charging Time = (5000mAh) / (5000mA) = 1 hour

Please note that this calculation provides an approximate charging time. In practice, the actual charging time might be slightly longer due to inefficiencies in the charging process and the balancing of individual cells. It’s important to monitor the charging process and use a balance charger specifically designed for lithium polymer batteries to ensure safety and prolong battery life.

When is a lithium polymer battery fully charged?

A lithium polymer battery is considered fully charged when it reaches its peak voltage per cell. For most lipo batteries, the peak voltage per cell is 4.2 volts. A lipo battery pack typically consists of multiple cells connected in series, so the overall voltage of the battery will be a multiple of 4.2 volts depending on the number of cells it has.

For example:

A 1S (single-cell) lithium polymer battery is fully charged at 4.2 volts.
A 2S (two-cell) lithium polymer battery is fully charged at 8.4 volts (4.2V x 2).
A 3S (three-cell) lithium polymer battery is fully charged at 12.6 volts (4.2V x 3).

It’s essential to use a balance charger designed for llithium polymer batteries when charging. A balance charger will monitor each cell’s voltage and ensure they all reach the correct voltage of 4.2 volts per cell, preventing overcharging and maintaining the overall health of the battery.
